The NIST Material Measurement Laboratory (MML) serves as the national reference laboratory for measurements in the chemical, biological and material sciences through activities ranging from fundamental and applied research, to the development and dissemination of certified reference materials, critically evaluated data, and other programs and tools to assure the quality of measurement results. MML is also responsible for coordinating the NIST-wide Standard Reference Material and Standard Reference Data programs.

Responsibilities

This position is in the Business Application Development, Support and Security Group of the Office of Reference Materials. The incumbent will design, develop and maintain online systems, SRD/Calibration/SRM internal business systems, and e-commerce websites including data management, business rules and IT security requirements. She/he will determine requirements for the Office of Reference Materials business systems and respond to customer feedback to improve usability. The incumbent will provide high quality customer support, high quality and testable code, review other IT staffs work, and provide feedback to the group on research of new tools and technologies.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

OR

Experience: Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate. IT-related experience must demonstrate:

  1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

In addition to the basic requirement applicants must also meet the following:

Specialized Experience: Applicants must also have 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS 9 (ZP II at NIST) level. Specialized Experience is defined as experience designing, developing and testing a Salesforce application. Working with other developers and stakeholders to review and improve code during the development of a Salesforce application, and training end users.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

This position allows you to qualify and be considered based on your education.
