The Engineering Project Manager oversees the project planning, budgeting, vendor selection , implementation, and tracking of Global Logistic DH Material Handling Equipment projects end to end. The responsibilities include working with MHE partners, DH Operations and consultants developing, business requirement conceptual designs, and costing and RFP proposals. The role will manage and coordinate task, milestones and timelines associated with internal UA team and external vendors and suppliers.

Project tasks and timelines responsibilities will include coordinating engineered design, vendor selection, contract award, MHE installation, and system configuration, user acceptance testing, training and commissioning. The qualified candidate will be an integral contributor to the UA's Distribution, Strategic Op’s and Engineering group by leading a cross-functional project team responsible for advancing UA's Distribution Capital Projects. Travel will be a requirement, expect 30% in support of multi-facility MHE installation. Role will be based out of corporate headquarters in Baltimore MD.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Engineering Project Manager, performs a wide range of duties including some or all of the following:

Plan and track the Material Handling and DH Systems / Process Projects

  • Develop Current and Future Plan with Operations, IT, and Engineering.

  • Work with senior management to align forecasts with planned growth

  • Work with Engineering Team to develop capacity and flow models to ensure that projects drive productivity, ROI and service ( SLA’s )

  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, FP&A, and Strategic Planning to ensure all needs are met and financial commitments are aligned (this is a fluid process and updates need to be effectively communicate to all stakeholders)

  • Work with MHE Vendors, IT Vendors develop project plans, timelines and key KPI’s

  • Provide financial budget information for executive team and presentations. Work with the Procurement department to develop RFP’s, define project scope and schedule with IT, Operations, and Engineering.

  • Manage and coordinate the project cut in’s, UAT, Volume Testing and provide hyper care “post go live support”

  • Cash Flow development and oversight

  • Change order management

  • Ensure that equipment rates, CPU and MHE UPH projections and targets are achieved

  • Meet quarterly with FP&A to review budget adherence

  • Meet bi-weekly with Strategic Operations senior management to review budget and identify any call outs

  • Oversee fiscal budget closeout of all Capital Asset Requests for planned budget year

  • Initiate and facilitate Capital Asset Request approval process through automated contract/procurement system

Plan the project

  • Define the scope of the project in collaboration with senior management

  • Create a detailed Microsoft project plan which identifies and sequences the activities needed to successfully complete the project

  • Determine the resources (time, money, equipment, etc.) required to complete the project

  • Develop a schedule for project completion that effectively allocates the resources to the activities

  • Review the project schedule with senior management and all other staff that will be affected by the project activities; revise the schedule as required

  • Determine the objectives and measures upon which the project will be evaluated at its completion

Staff the project

  • In consultation with the appropriate manager, recruit, interview and select staff and/or volunteers with appropriate skills for the project activities

  • Manage project staff and/or volunteers according to the established policies and practices of the organization

  • Ensure that all project personnel receive an appropriate orientation to the organization and the project

  • Contract qualified consultants to work on the project as appropriate

Implement the project

  • Oversight of the project and provide management of the scope, dates, and budget

  • Develop forms and records to document project activities

  • Set up files to ensure that all project information is appropriately documented and secured

  • Monitor the progress of the project and make adjustments as necessary to ensure the successful completion of the project

  • Establish a communication schedule to update stakeholders including appropriate staff in the organization on the progress of the project

  • Review the quality of the work completed with the project team on a regular basis to ensure that it meets the project standards

Control the project

  • Monitor and approve all budgeted project expenditures

  • Monitor cash flow projections and report actual cash flow and variance to senior management on a regular basis (monthly/bimonthly)

  • Manage and report all deliverables including project scorecard, timeline and key project milestones

Evaluate the project

  • Ensure that the project deliverables are on time, within budget and at the required level of quality

  • Evaluate the outcomes of the project as established during the planning phase

  • Perform Post Audit to ensure ROI, rates and capacity targets are attained

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manage team of vendor Project Managers.

  • Engineering Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year College, or Business\Supply Chain degree (B.S) with minimum of 3- 5 years’ experience in similar role.

  • Experience in Supply Chain Management, Project Management, or Procurement.

  • PMP Certification Preferred

  • Three-five years project management or related experience

  • Distribution or Manufacturing, preferably in an automated environment

  • Cross functional multi-site experience

  • Proven Direct responsibility of project budgets in excess of $10M

  • Strong working knowledge material handling equipment and technologies

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

  • Expert or Advanced skill set using Excel spreadsheets to manage financial budgets.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
